Warm,
welcoming drop-in class,
popular and well
established, having come together for quite a few years now in this bright,
lofty space in
the 1st floor of a lovely period building - see the photos at the
bottom of this page! Plenty of room to move around for
everyone.
We always like to meet new
people, so please don't
feel shy to come along! There is a really lovely
atmosphere, in that it's warm,
friendly, supportive and
openminded, and good fun,
too.
We
start at 7pm
and although most people try to get there a little earlier
to set up, some arrive a little later due to other commitments,
so don't worry if you arrive a little late yourself. We book different
models each week and we explore a range of
throughout the evening. poses of
different lengths.
All you need is
provided: Easels and
tressles (for seated or standing drawing), materials, and good quality
paper is available
to purchase at the class (at £0.30 for A2 sheet), or bring your
own. We
have a brief but enjoyable tea
& biscuit
break at 8pm (all included in price) and we finish drawing
at approx 9.30pm,
after which we tend to go for a drink in a nearby local pub
for a civilised drink and a jovial chat.
If
you want to be included in any update emails and information on any
upcoming classes & courses (no advertising, just relevant
information) please subscribe to our

goes without saying that your data will never be passed on.

Feedback for the
Back to Basics course:
"The step by step
approach was invaluable in helping me to really look
at the figure and turn what I saw into a believable drawing. Despite having drawn for
years, the back-to-basics course helped to learn techniques that I now
use constantly when I draw and has above all helped turned something 3d
into a 2d medium."
Clare Davidson
"I recommend this class because
Adrian has great ability in getting you to really think about HOW to
draw from life. He achieves this two-fold: lecture as you work - where
you will learn a range of complementary approaches and techniques that
will assist you in getting the subject matter onto paper; one-to-one
tuition - where he will help you refine your drawing/painting. In both
cases you will hone your skills (at whatever level you are), not just
in drawing/painting, but in seeing, experiencing, and understanding.
This makes for great learning, development, and discovery, and a
thoroughbly enjoyable experience. ”

This
class is kept
purposefully small so places
are limited and booking
is essential.
This is not a drop-in class. Should you not be able to attend one or
more of the sessions, you can attend the respective sessions in the
next Back to Basics course, at no extra cost. We run about 3-4 per year.
Designed
specifically to provide the basics of life drawing to anyone with an
interest - from those who have not drawn in life room
settings
before to those more experienced who want to refresh their
drawing
skills. This systematic 10
week course will
teach you the essentials
such as the techniques needed to properly construct the human body in
space; how to measure accurately; basic anatomy; we also spend time
with the more complex forms such as hands, feet, eyes, ears, nose,
mouth. And we look at the various life drawing methods and
practices, and how we can incorporate our drawing practice into our
everyday lives.
The course is practice-based,
not lecture-based: because the only way you can
really understand the ideas and concepts taught is by doing it
yourself.
After this
course, you will be knowledgeable, experienced and confident
enough to join any life drawing class up
to intermediate level. The emphasis in this course is on practice
throughout: you will be gaining hours upon hours of drawing
experience.
The
Monday drop-in
life drawing class also has got a meetup page - if you want to be on
the
mailing list and/or notified of any changes to the schedule, simply

link.
Begins: 6 May 2009,
runs for 10 Wednesdays.
This
is a 10 week course run for the Thurrock Adult Community College. The
aim of this course is to provide a complete introduction to
working with landscape, both in the landscape and in the studio
(working from sketches previously made in the landscape). This course
will be
run partly outdoors
in the beautiful Essex countryside and partly
indoors in
the Grays College's art rooms.
There will be follow-on
courses for which completion of this course is an advantage.
